Mark Anstey

Senior Associate

BA (Hons) BArch ARB

Mark studied at the University of Liverpool School of Architecture and has worked for practices in York, Liverpool, London and Bern (Switzerland) before joining Ellis Williams in 2006.

As a Senior Associate in our Liverpool studio, Mark has experience across a wide range of sectors including education, residential and sport & leisure, however he specialises in the design and delivery of major arts, cultural and community projects.

His true passion for the arts, cultural and community sector is evidenced by the number of award-winning schemes he has designed and where his creative and collaborative approach has been nationally recognised. Mark’s projects include the multi-award winning Storyhouse (Chester) which won both regional and national RIBA Awards in 2018 as well as a Historic England Award for Best Major Regeneration of a Historic Building and a Civic Trust Special Award for Community Impact & Engagement.

His other schemes include Mostyn Gallery (Llandudno, North Wales) which won RIBA and Civic Trust Awards, as well as the Gold Medal for Architecture at the Welsh National Eisteddfod 2011; the Welsh National Sailing Academy & Events Centre, now know as Plas Heli (Pwllheli, North Wales), which achieved an RSAW Award; and the gallery at East Quay (Watchet), most recently being awarded an RIBA Regional Award, RIBA South West Building of the Year and Client of the Year at the 2023 RIBA Stirling Prize.
