Manchester SEND Schools Programme

The successful delivery of Southern Cross, Castlefield Campus, and Camberwell Park schools for Manchester City Council marked a significant investment in inclusive education across Greater Manchester.

Each school was thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) requirements—providing safe, supportive environments that enabled learning and personal growth.

In addition to their educational impact, these projects demonstrated a commitment to sustainability, with design and construction approaches that reduced carbon emissions and supported Manchester’s zero-carbon ambitions.

The programme was recognised with the Delivering Social Value Award at the 2022 Building Awards, celebrating its long-lasting contribution to the local economy, job creation, and support for some of the region’s most underrepresented communities.

The Velodrome, National Cycling Centre Manchester

A programme of modernisation and operational performance improvements delivering upgrades to the track and spectator facilities. Futureproofing the velodrome was the top priority, through the modernisation of the building services it is estimated the refurbishment will save somewhere in the region of 517 tCO2 per year, meaning that Manchester’s “Medal Factory” can focus on the athletes rather than its carbon footprint.

St Annes Street Police Station Refurbishment, Liverpool

A complete refurbishment of the existing station which first opened in 1972, creating a state-of-the-art facility for Merseyside Police’s busiest operational police station. With a focus on energy efficiency and reduction of carbon emissions, the installation of a modern new insulative cladding system, LED lighting throughout, EV charging points and solar panels leads has led to a significant reduction in running costs compared to the building pre-refurbishment.

Storyhouse, Chester

The restoration and revitalisation of the Grade II listed former Odeon building has transformed it into an innovative cultural facility in the heart of Chester city centre where theatre, library, and cinema co-exist under one roof.

At the time of its completion, Storyhouse was the largest regional arts development project and the most significant capital investment in Chester for over 50 years.

Since opening, it has received numerous accolades including a RIBA National Award and a Civic Trust Award and has become an exemplar of cultural and leisure development. Its impact continues to resonate with local residents and the wider regional economy, setting a benchmark for inclusive, community-driven regeneration.
