Ellis William’s £37.7m new campus development has started on site and a ground-breaking ceremony was held at the site on 31st July. The project at Quarry Hill is in the heart of the cultural quarter of the city. The 15,500m2 development will revolutionise the college’s Creative & Digital Arts and Health & Social Care provisions and house expansion for Leeds College of Music, part of Leeds City College Group. The new development will reinforce the college’s position as a leading authority in further education across the city.
The 9-storey development, neighbouring the West Yorkshire Playhouse, will include a performance studio, specialist music recording facilities, dance & rehearsal spaces, TV studio & editing facilities, lecture theatres, digital animation and art facilities. It will also house new facilities for childcare.
Simon Ford, Design Director for Further Education said: ‘we have worked closely with Leeds City College designing an innovative campus that will provide students with a contemporary learning environment, it’s been a really rewarding project for all our team involved and we look forward to this next exciting stage of the project’.
The contract awarded to Wates will complete by summer 2019.
