A new state of the art museum and exhibition space within the Cultural Quarter of Oldham the project will revitalise the grade two-listed former library and art gallery. The transformation is being funded by the Council, local philanthropist Norman Stoller and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The revamped venue has been designed as a multi-purpose cultural facility that extends Oldham’s Cultural Quarter by bringing together three new state-of-the-art galleries, a modern archive search and study space to discover local and family history, and a performance space for 150 people offering a diverse programme music, comedy, talks, local talent showcases and theatre. Alongside this will feature extensive visitor facilities such as a new shop, café and bar spilling into a revitalised outdoor space all linked to Gallery Oldham completed in 2002.
Interserve has been selected as construction partner to deliver the project, work is expected to start on site early 2020.
