Due for completion in 2020, this project for Stockon-on-Tees Borough Council will provide a new swimming pool, sports facillity, library and customer service centre for Ingleby Barwick.
Visitors will enter the building into a shared double height foyer and café area, which gives views directly into the learner-end of the pool hall and is shared with the first part of the community library and the Council’s customer service point. The library has a prime ground floor frontage location to recognise its community-centric role and importance in the scheme. This also allows for a seamless interface between main foyer and library, encouraging visitors to explore the library who might not otherwise have done.

Fitness and exercise studio spaces are clearly situated on the building’s upper level. The importance of the Gym space is signaled to passers-by from outside by the projecting ‘picture-window’, comprising a living advert for the club facilities that will be on offer as provided by the Council’s leisure operators.
Part funded by the Sport England Strategic Facilities Fund, the project has already been identified as one of Sport England’s future exemplar case studies.
