Halton Leisure Centre

Halton Leisure Centre is a new state-of-the-art 50,000 sq ft facility in Widnes, designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community while making a significant urban design contribution to its important town gateway setting.

The distinctive building showcases exceptional design quality, reflecting Halton Borough Council’s key policy drivers of accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability. It aims to be welcoming to all, offering outstanding facilities that enhance the lives of local residents and promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. The dementia-friendly centre enables the inactive to become active, helping more people participate in sport and physical activities and live happier, healthier lives.
Facilities

Replacing the former Kingsway Leisure Centre at Moor Lane, Halton Leisure Centre offers enhanced services and facilities, including

  • A 25m, six-lane swimming pool with a dedicated learner pool.
  • A 100-station gym, equipped with modern fitness equipment and programmes.
  • A four-court sports hall for multi-sport activities.
  • A spinning studio and exercise studio for group fitness classes.
  • A squash court and a soft play area for children.
  • Health consultation rooms to support wellness and rehabilitation services.
  • A café/social space for relaxation and social interaction.

Sustainability
Designed with eco-conscious infrastructure, Halton Leisure Centre embeds sustainability credentials to ensure environmental friendliness. It boasts lower carbon emissions and reduced energy costs, aligning with modern environmental standards and contributing to both local and global sustainability efforts.

Impact on the Community
Halton Leisure Centre has become a central hub for sport, health, and recreation in Widnes. It supports the local community by encouraging residents to be more active, improve their health, and engage in a range of sports and leisure activities. The centre fosters personal development and social engagement, ensuring it is cherished by the community for many years to come.

Opening
The centre officially opened on Monday, 10th February 2025. The Mayor and Mayoress, Kevan and Andrea Wainwright, cut the ribbon to mark the occasion. Read more here.
